Product Description

Survivor Sportfloor Systems Installation Instructions

Tools:
100lb Roller, Tape Measure, Straightedge, Square, Utility knife, 1/2” Drill Motor, Jiffy Paddle, 1/16" Trowel, Chalk Line and Paint Roller

Handling and Storage:
1. Survivor Rubber and Sportfloor and adhesives must be site conditioned at room temperature for 72 hours prior to, during, and after the installation. Room temperature must be maintained between 65 and 75F (18 and 24C) and relative humidity at 50%.

2. In rooms that are exposed to intense or direct sunlight, the product must be protected during the conditioning, installation and adhesive curing periods, by covering the light source.

3. Survivor Sportfloor is not recommended for exterior use, exposure to excessive UV rays can result in fading and/or color variation, but if that does not bother you, it will still last a long time.

General Subfloor Preparations:
1. All subfloors must be clean, smooth, dry, and flat within 1/8” in 10 feet. Dust, scale, and loose particles must be removed.

2. The surface must be free of solvents, paint, grease, oil, wax, alkali, sealing/curing compounds, and any other foreign material, which could affect adhesive bonding.

***Do not install Survivor Sportfloor over expansion joints or in areas where the product will be exposed to animal fats/greases or vegetable oils.

3. Concrete subfloors must be checked for moisture content. The test shall be in accordance with ASTM F-1869 Standard Test Method for Measuring Moisture Vapor Emission Rate of Concrete Subfloor Using Anhydrous Calcium Chloride. One test should be conducted for every 1000 sq. ft. of flooring and the results not exceed 5 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. in 24 hours. If the test results exceed the limitations, the installation must not proceed until the problem has been corrected. An adhesion bonding test of the actual materials to be installed should be performed, every 1000 sq. ft., utilizing a 12" x 12" piece of the flooring material. The test pieces should remain in place for 72 hours and then evaluated for bond strength to the concrete.
Excessive alkali must be removed by mechanical means. (i.e.: bead blasting, sanding, or grinding).Fill all depressions, cracks, and other surface irregularities with a good quality cementitious underlayment filler.

***Concrete floors equipped with a radiant heating system, care must be taken that the floor surface temperature does not exceed 1050 F during normal operation.

4. Wood subfloors must have a minimum 18 inches (47 cm) of cross-ventilated space between the bottom of the joist and ground. Exposed earth crawl spaces should be covered with a polyethylene moisture barrier.
Wood joists should be on 16" (41 cm) centers with 1" (2.5 cm) boards installed diagonally and covered with 1/2" (12.7 mm) A.P.A. Approved underlayment plywood. Nail on 4" (10.2 cm) centers around perimeter and across field. Countersink nail heads. Fill all depressions, joints, cracks, gouges and chipped edges with a good quality latex patching compound and sand entire surface smooth.
Single Wood and Tongue and Groove subfloors should be covered with 1/2" (12.7 mm) or 3/4" (19 cm) A.P.A. Approved underlayment plywood.

***No warranty on installations over "particle board" or "chipboard" type underlayments. We do not recommend nor warrant rubber flooring installations over existing resilient floors. All resilient flooring and adhesives must be removed prior to installing the rubber flooring system.

5. Terrazzo and Ceramic Floors: The floor surface must be thoroughly sanded to remove all glaze and waxes. Remove all loose tiles and clean the grout lines. Fill all grout lines and other depressions with a cementitious leveling compound.

6. Steel Substrates: The surface must be thoroughly cleaned by sandblasting, wire brush or other mechanical means to remove all rust and other contaminants. Paint the surface with an anti-corrosive coating (i.e.: Sherwin Williams “Kromik Metal Primer” or equivalent) to prevent rust from recurring.

Survivor Rubber and Sportfloor Dry laying, Cutting and Fitting:
1. Survivor™ Sportfloor must be dry laid prior to adhesive installation. Each roll is clearly marked with a label on the bottom side of the roll. Unroll each roll in the same direction following the labels on the bottom side of each roll.

2. Always assume that the walls you are butting against are not square or straight. Use a chalk line that is perfectly square in the room for an edge of the flooring to follow.

3. Remove the flooring material from the shrink-wrap and unroll it onto the floor. Lay the flooring material on the floor that will utilize your cuts efficiently to minimize cutting and waste. Precut all rolls at the required length, including sufficient material to run up the wall and overlap for seaming at each end. All long seams are factory trimmed, but all head seams must be overlapped and cut by the installer using a sharp utility knife and straight edge.

4. Unroll and place the edge of the first roll along the chalk line.

5. Unroll the next roll overlapping the long seam of the first roll by no more than one sixteenth inch (1/16”). This procedure will ensure a tight seam and minimize adhesive from squeezing through the seam.

6. Repeat this procedure for each consecutive roll necessary to complete the area.

7. Roll material is stretched slightly during the manufacturing process; therefore, the installer must allow the material to relax after dry laying for a minimum period of 12 hours (24 hours preferred) to adjust to room temperature prior to final cutting and adhesive application.

8. After performing the above procedures, make all final cuts around room perimeter, alcoves, offsets, head seams and other obstructions.

9. SurvivorGrip™ 1-part urethane adhesive is approved for installing Survivor Sportfloor. SurvivorGrip™ 1-part urethane adhesive is a water proof adhesive, and can be used in areas that may have surface water exposure (i.e.; shower and locker rooms, therapeutic, swimming pool, and other similar areas.)

10. After proper mixing apply SurvivorGrip to the subfloor using the following: For porous and non-porous substrates: SurvivorGrip: 1/16” x 1/16” x 1/16” U-Notch Trowel – 95 sq. ft. per gallon. See adhesive label for mixing directions and subfloor porosity conditions. Remove wet adhesive at seams or off surface with a cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol or water.

***Caution: Urethane adhesives must be removed when wet. The removal of dried adhesive can result in flooring product surface damage.

11. Lay the flooring into the adhesive. Immediately roll with a 100 lb. Roll the width first and then the length. Roll again 60 minutes later. Inspect the floor 2-1/2 hours after installation and roll a third time, if necessary.

12. Avoid all traffic for at least 24 hours and only limited light traffic for a period of 72 hours after the installation. Do not allow roller traffic or perform any maintenance on the floor until after a minimum of 72 hours. Avoid cold or excessive heat, including direct sunlight during this 72 hour period.

Maintenance Instructions

It is important to follow a proper and regular maintenance program to preserve the flooring.

To support our customers maintenance program, We recommend the use of Taski cleaning products. For specific maintenance advice, please contact Taski at 1-800-827-5487. (USA and Canada calls).

Step #1 - Post Installation Initial Cleaning (Initial cleaning should not be performed until seventy-two (72) hours after installation):

1. Thoroughly sweep or dry vacuum the flooring to remove all loose dirt and grit.

2. Prepare a cleaning solution of 6 to 8 oz of Taski "Profi", an oil and grease emulsifying neutral detergent (pH of 7-8), per gallon of warm water. The dilution selected depends on light to heavy soil conditions.

3. Scrub the rubber flooring with the cleaning solution as follows:
Small area installations: use a deck brush.
Large area installations: use a 22 gauge flagged nylon bristle brush on a single disk scrubbing machine.

4. Wet vacuum the cleaning solution.

5. Rinse with clean cold water and then remove all water using a wet vacuum.

6. Allow the flooring to dry thoroughly. (Approximately one hour, depending on temperature and humidity) Use oscillating fans to decrease drying times.

Step #2 – Finishing

1. Two finish options:

A. – Taski Vision Matte – Low Satin Finish

B. – Taski Vision Star – High Gloss Finish with extra durability

2. Using a sponge mop or sprayer, apply four (4) thin coats of finish allowing a minimum of 30 minutes dry time or until thoroughly dry between coats.

3. Provide sufficient cure time of final coat before allowing foot traffic. (Minimum 2 hours)

***Note: Exposed skate blades will cause the finish to whiten due to the shearing action of the sharp edges of the blades. It is highly recommended that blade guards be used to minimize this effect.

Step #3 - Routine Maintenance

1. Sweep or dry vacuum the floor daily when area is in use.

2. Scrub using a deck brush or auto scrubber equipped with a 22 gauge flagged nylon bristle brush (Single Disc Machine @ 150 to 300 RPM) and Taski “WiWax” (2 oz/gallon of water).

3. Use a wet/dry vacuum to remove soiled solution from the floor. Rinsing the floor is not required.

Stripping the Finish:
1. Stripping of the finish is not required until there is a noticeable accumulation of dirt and contaminants embedded in the finish and can be minimized by applying thin coats of finish when the look calls for it and only where needed.

2. Follow the steps outlined in Step #1 – Post Installation Initial Cleaning using Taski “Ice-It” Stripping Solution instead of the Taski “Profi”.

SPECIAL MAINTENANCE CAUTIONS:
1. Removing Gum: Apply ice on the affected area; carefully remove the frozen gum with a non-metal spatula. Mineral spirits can be used to remove any remaining residue. Hand buff the spot with a soft towel.

2. Do not use steel wool, strong solvents (Lestoil, Top Job, etc. and similar products), gasoline, turpentine, and acetone.

3. Do not use mechanical polishers that exceed 350 RPM.

Warranty:
Survivor Sport Floor brand rolled/tiled rubber flooring is guaranteed and warranted to be free of manufacturing defects in material and workmanship for 5 years from the original date of purchase, by the original purchaser (Warranty Period”). If defects in material and/or workmanship reported during the warranty period US Rubber will repair or replace the product at no cost to the original purchaser.
In addition, Survivor Sport Floor brand rolled/tiled rubber flooring is guaranteed for 5 years that it will not harden, become brittle, chip, crack, tear or exhibit any signs of excessive deterioration except for normal wear and tear.

Notes:
*Custom colors are available.

*In Ice Rinks, this product is not warranted against premature deterioration in specific ice rink applications such as penalty boxes, concession stands, changing rooms, entrances and exits to and from the ice rink itself. It is highly recommended that skate guards be worn in such areas to extend the life of the floor.

*In Health Clubs/Gyms, be careful to use rubberized weight plates and dumbbells in free weight areas. Repeated metal to rubber dropping and pounding will cause premature wear issues. In particularly high abuse areas (pivot points under weight racks), a preventative layer of matting may be required to negate premature wear.

*Survivor Rubber and Sportfloor is for interior installations only and not recommended for environments where the product will be exposed to animal fats, vegetable oils, or petroleum based materials. (i.e.: commercial kitchens)

*Survivor Rubber and Sportfloor is not precoated with a factory finish; therefore, it must not be subject to debris and potential damage caused from heavy construction activities. Cover with plastic and plywood until construction is final.

*SurvivorGrip Adhesive is manufacture's recommended adhesive
